The history of Gianni Gagliardo Winery in Piedmont, Italy dates back to 1847 when the family began growing grapes. The winery is now run by the sixth generation of the family.
The Barolo DOCG Gianni Gagliardo comes from the vineyards of La Morra, followed by Monforte d’Alba, Serralunga, Barolo and Verduno. This combination of positions gives it a particularly expressive and pleasantly sophisticated character already at a young age, whilst giving it excellent aging potential.
VINTAGE: 2019
ALC: 14.5%
VARIETALS: Nebbiolo 100%
AGING: Duration of aging in wood: 24 months
TASTING NOTES: Pale garnet and thin viscosity belie a bold structure. A very precise Barolo that initially plays like a fine burgundy until the firm but smooth Nebbiolo tannins kick in. Rose, fresh strawberry and smoke on the aromatic nose. Bright acidity and sour cherry palate. Would hold up against a good Monvigliero. Strong aging potential.
PAIRING: Second courses of red meat and game, first and second courses with mushrooms, mature cheeses
