Château Guillon is located in the village of Castres-Gironde. There is evidence of a Roman presence in Castres in the first century BC, leading one to suspect that the Romans had already realized the potential for great wine production. Indeed, five centuries later, the Roman poet Ausonius described the banks of the Garrone as being overgrown with vines. Château Guillon’s vineyards lie in the heart of the Graves appellation, on the combination of gravel and sand that leads to such high quality wines.
This Left Bank wonder is chiseled, graceful, and grand—words we’d typically associate with a Louvre exhibit, or perhaps Château Guillon’s illustrious appellation neighbor, the First Growth Château Haut-Brion. Yet it ranks alongside some of Bordeaux’s most affordable buys, even as the Merlot-forward effort took a stunning 95-point victory run at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards,

TASTING NOTES:
A lively ruby core dominates the landscape. Gifted with red roses and bramble at first glance and decorated with lush red fruit, cassis, and spice. The mouthfeel uncovers layers of raspberry and wild strawberry preserves wrapped in graphite-rich minerals with a sense of direction and a broad tannic structure. A beautifully layered example of Merlot-dominant Bordeaux. Drink now – 2030.
