Château Bénitey is located at the foot of the coast, east of Saint-Emilion, in the town of Saint-Laurent des Combes.
It takes its name from a cross at the junction of the road above the vineyard, a cross reminiscent of that of a holy water font.
The area is 5 ha with vines whose average age is 40 years and the wine is usually composed mainly of 70% Merlot, aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels (20 to 40% new).
VARIETALS 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc
VINTAGE 2019
TECHNICAL DATA Alcohol 13.5%
APPEARANCE Elegant and refined ruby colour.
NOSE The fruit core is certainly strong but its power is in its purity and poise: a towering pillar of finesse, ripe but not over-the-top, intense but balanced by its savoury suit of cleanest, neatest oak.
PALATE The mouth has a fine structure and solid, ripe tannins that lie behind the wine’s blackberry fruits, giving concentration. Like its label this classical Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is all about traditional elegance and ageing, designed to age for long time.
AGEING Aged for a year in wood.
PAIRING Like many Saint-Émilion, it goes really well with beef, burger with cheddar and bacon and mature cheeses.
READINESS FOR DRINKING Drink now to 2030+.
